Reliance Jio to reportedly extend its free Welcome offer to March 2017

“Reliance Jio will reportedly make the announcement on December 28th”
There has been a lot of speculation about whether Reliance Jio’s free services will continue after December 31st. However, according to a report by Business Insider, the company will be extending its Welcome offer beyond the deadline. In fact, the report claims that the operator will be making this announcement on December 28th, which marks the birthday of Reliance group’s founder Dhirubhai Ambani. Since the company opened its telecom network to its employees on the same day last year, the report does seem believable.
The sources suggest that the offer will be extended by another three months, i.e. till March 2017, which concurs with previous rumours. The extended offer will benefit both the existing and new users. There’s little doubt that its aggressive strategy has helped Reliance Jio to rank among the fastest-growing telecom operators in the world. However, incumbent telcos raised a lot of hue and cry over its user acquisition strategy, and requested TRAI to enforce its maximum 90-day rule for any promotion.

As we’re inching closer to December 3rd – after which SIM cards won't include the Jio Welcome offer – these rumours are getting stronger. The move will also help the latest telecom company to reach its goal of attaining 100 million subscribers in the shortest time possible, especially after the recent report which mentions that its growth rate has sharply declined. However, it would be interesting to see Reliance Jio’s strategy December 4th onwards, when new subscribers would need to purchase the SIM.
